Honedown
Image Compression
Honedown is a fast, lightweight image compression tool for macOS. Browse for images, see a live preview as you adjust quality, and compress. Real-time before-and-after file size comparisons show exactly how much space you save. Convert between PNG, JPEG, HEIC, and TIFF formats, control EXIF metadata, and batch-process multiple images at once. All processing happens locally on your Mac, with no uploads, no cloud, and no data collection.
Features
Live Quality Preview
See your image update as you drag the quality slider. The estimated file size changes in real time so you can find the sweet spot between quality and size before compressing.
Compress Any Image
Shrink PNG, JPEG, HEIC, and TIFF images. The slider starts at your original quality and goes down, so you always know what you are trading for a smaller file.
Batch Processing
Select multiple images at once and compress them all in a single pass. Every file shows its original size, compressed size, and savings percentage.
Format Conversion
Convert between PNG, JPEG, HEIC, and TIFF. Turn PNGs into smaller JPEGs for the web, convert HEIC to PNG for universal compatibility, or any combination.
EXIF Metadata Control
Keep your camera data, GPS coordinates, and timestamps intact, or strip them out for privacy. One toggle, your choice.
100% Local Processing
All image compression happens on your Mac using Apple's built-in ImageIO framework. No uploads, no cloud processing, no data collection. Your images stay yours.

How It Works
Browse for Images
Open Honedown and browse for images or drag them in. PNG, JPEG, HEIC, and TIFF are all supported.
Adjust Settings
Set your quality level with the slider, choose an output format, and decide whether to preserve or strip EXIF metadata.
Compress and Save
Hit Compress and watch the results. Color-coded savings show you exactly how much space you saved. Then save the compressed files to a folder you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
What image formats does Honedown support?
Honedown supports PNG, JPEG, HEIC, and TIFF for both input and output. You can convert between any of these formats during compression.
Does Honedown upload my images anywhere?
No. All image processing happens locally on your Mac using Apple's built-in ImageIO framework. Honedown makes no network connections and contains no networking code.
Is there a subscription?
No. Honedown is a one-time purchase. Pay once, use forever. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases.
Will Honedown modify my original images?
No. Honedown never modifies your original files. Compressed images are saved as new files in a folder you choose, and if a name is already taken Honedown adds a number instead of overwriting anything.
What does the EXIF toggle do?
EXIF metadata includes camera settings, GPS coordinates, timestamps, and other information embedded in your photos. With the toggle on, Honedown preserves this data. With it off, metadata is stripped for privacy.
How many images can I compress at once?
There is no limit. Select as many images as you need and Honedown will process them all in a batch.
Can I get a refund?
Honedown is sold through the Mac App Store. Refund requests are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
